              Manny No More

Manny's reputation has just been damaged and it means one more Hall-of-Famer who is on the list with and asterisk next to their name. Ranked by many MLB scouts as the "best swing in baseball" has ashamed his friends, family, and most of all his loyal supports in his superb baseball career. It's to bad that this had to be let out by whoever the "rat" is in baseball, but that's the way it is.

                   2009 NFL Draft Grades

NFC East
Dallas Cowboys: C-
After having no day 1 pick, the Cowboys were stacked with 12 2nd day picks. They took a couple of players earlier than expected and filled their special teams needs. Sleeper: Mike Mickens, stand out CB from Cincinnati

New York Giants: B+
Hakeem Nicks in my opinion will be a top 2 wide receiver that came out of this year's draft. Under looked party because of the lack of speed and going to UNC, this highly productive, durable wide receiver should help fill the immediate need at wide receiver for the 1 year removed Super Bowl Champions.

Philadelphia Eagles: B
The Eagles had a very successful draft. They filled the need at wide receiver with Jeremy Maclin and with a tall, athletic TE with Corneilus Ingram. They also got an exceptional cornerback in Victor "Macho" Harris. He has very good recovery speed.

Washington Redskins: C+
The Redskins probably didn't realize, in my opinion the best Defensive End in the draft, Brian Orakpo would fall all the way to 13, so they got lucky there. Besides there first round pick they didn't get much.

NFC South
Atlanta Falcons: B+
Peria Jerry should help their depleted front 7 and they got a former first round prospect William Moore, in the second round because of the risk of injuries other teams passed up on him. What could turn out to be one of the biggest steals in this year's draft, Lawrence Sidbury out of Richmond, could turn out to be a NFL superstar in the years to come

Carolina Panthers: C
The Carolina Panthers probably got the biggest 2nd round steal in this year's draft with Everette Brown. Some projected Brown as high as a mid-first round pick, so they were thankful he dropped all the way too the 2nd round. They did have to pay a lot for that which included a 2010 1st round draft pick. Corey Irvin out of Georgia was a nice 3rd round pick out of Georgia. He should help Julius Peppers on their D-Line.

 New Orleans Saints: C
Malcom Jenkins, out of Ohio State, should be an immediate help to the Saints' appalling secondary. They only had 4 picks, so they couldnt really make any noise.

 Tampa Bay Buccaneers: B-
This could turn out to be an outstanding draft if Josh Freeman ends up being a Pro-Bowler, but their best pick has to be Roy Miller out of Texas. Under looked because of the sensational season Brian Orakpo had, Miller should be a household name in seasons to come.

That's it for now, and will have more for you later.

In a Quiet Spot

According to a report in the Boston Globe on Monday, the Rangers and Red Sox are still in ongoing discussions about a possible deal for one of the ranger catchers  in exchange for Clay Buccholz. This report hinted the reason the Rangers brought in Adam Melhuse last week was to make sure they have a solid backup when Salty or Teagarden is dealt. The only way a trade would go down right now is if Jason Varitek turns down a deal worth approximately $5 million and an option for the 2010 season. To me, we need to deal Salty. Either he's not what he's suppose to be or he's not going to work in Texas. I'd rather see Teagarden catch because he can play defense and hit for average, which maybe hints the name Pudge Rodriguez!?

                                                          Eagles Update
The Eagles are now 1-1 in the preseason after a 24-13 win against the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers had a 7-0 lead with 5 minutes left in the first quarter. With 5 minutes left in the 1st the ref and all the fans saw lightning and then there was a 58 minute weather delay. After that the Eagles didn't score until the 4th quarter when the Panthers were leading 13 to nothing then the Eagles tacked on 24 unanswered points and won. Their next match is Friday August 22 when they go to new england to take on the Patriots. Kevin Kolb was the quarterback when the Eagles made their comeback. Kolb was 14-27 with 155 yards 1 TD and 1 INT. If I had to pick a player of the game it would definately be Tony Hunt. He rushed 5 times for 79 yards with 1 TD. Kevin Curtis is injured and will miss 2 months or more. He is getting surgery today. Also, Tony Hunt has been moved to the FB position and will start against the Patriots.

     It's Not Over

The New York Yankees post season run isn't over just yet. I think they will make it and not be left out for the first time in more than a decade. They have a high caliber offense, led by future H.O.F, Alex Rodriguez, and a successful supporting cast. The pitching is there when Chieng Ming Wang and Joba Chamberlain come back, and Hideki Matsui will sure help A-Rod to carry the Yanks' into October.

The Red Sox are starting to decline with the unreliable pitching staff such as, Clay Buchholz, who is 2-8 with a 6.35 ERA. Unless their offense can stay healthy, led by David Ortiz, Kevin Youkilis and Dustin Pedroia, I don't think they have what it takes to hold on.

           All Dunn

The Cincinnati Reds finally found a new home for slugger, Adam Dunn. The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired him for 3 minor leaguers. The big name Minor Leaguer dealt was Dallas Buck and two others to be named.

This was a big move for the Diamondbacks if they want to hold on to the NL West, since the Dodgers got Manny Ramirez. Arizona is 1 and 1/2 games ahead of the Dodgers going into Monday's games.

If the Mavs want a chance, Dirk will have to play MVP ball. (Layne Murdoch/NBAE/Getty Images)
                Not You Coach

The Dallas Mavericks' players called for a player only practice after Avery Johnson told them they would have the day off for they can have fresh legs going into the possible playoff elimination game. The atmosphere is very down in Dallas and they are tired of Avery drawing his X'd and O's.

It's time that Dirk and Jason Kidd come together and get it straight with the rest of the guys. They have to step up with their playoff experience and their leadership and tell the team it's now or never for most of them.

Many people will say that the Devin Harris trade is one Dallas will regret because of CP3's quickness, but Jason Kidd has done a much better job than people give him credit for. Think about if Kidd was with the Mavs at the beginning of the season and had all of that time to form bonds with the players. I think Dallas would be much better and would be battling for a chance to go to the Finals, rather than being down 3-1.  Right now is the Mavs chance to shine.
